Essential Oils to Set the Mood

When it comes to having great sex, context matters. Specifically a context that’s low stress, deeply affectionate, and explicitly erotic. These four oils help make that a reality.

These oils are best used in a diffuser to fill your space

  1. Aligning is the perfect preparation oil. It stimulates the emotional parts of your brain to help you both relax and feel more confident and courageous. Use it all day to keep your stress down or right before you saunter into the bedroom – especially if you are trying something new – to help your inner siren come out.
  2. The first time that I tried Love, I was having a day. I hated what I saw in the mirror. My inner mean girl was all, “You’re a stupid worthless piece of shit.” And so on. I desperately diffused some while showering. Within minutes my anxiety ebbed and I dismissing my inner mean girl, thanking her for trying to protect me.
  3. You could say that I’m dependent on Sweet Oasis. Since I already dedicated an entire blog post to it, I’ll be brief here. With Copaiba, Cedarwood, Lime, Lavender, and Balsam of Peru, this oil calms your heart and helps you release emotional pain and invite peace in. AMEN.
  4. Tranquility – with a name like that, do you need me to say more?! Ok I will! This blend has so many uses! Use it sleep more deeply, enhance your meditation practice (great for de-stressing), or to relax during a massage. Plus it promotes patience which let’s be real is the true key to an intimate, exciting, & fulfilling relationship.

Essential Oils to Turn You On

Now let’s talk about oils that specifically work to make you horny.

There are many option here. Your best bet is to choose whichever scent(s) you and your beau(s) enjoy the most. Then, make sure to dilute them with a carrier oil and rub them along your inner thighs from knee to leg crease. Avoid your genitals.

Here are a few of our favourite aphrodisiac essential oils. You can diffuse them or use them in any of the aphrodisiac essential oil recipes below.

  1. Ylang Ylang, Rose, and Jasmine are floral and traditional aphrodisiacs. Their flowers have often spread over beds on wedding nights. These oils also increase your feelings of affection and happiness while calming you down.
  2. Clary Sage is more musky and herbal. It helps you feel more frisky and open to receiving. In other words: the exact mood you want to be in before getting it on! It’s long been used as both an aphrodisiac and to alleviate PMS and menstrual cramps. Its great for mixing with bright, citrus oils and sweet, floral ones.
  3. Cypress has a woodsy, herbaceous scent. It stimulates blood flow which is vital for physical arousal as well as encourages peace, harmony, and serenity.
  4. Orange is obviously citrusy. It helps you feel happy, optimistic, and energetic. Plus it can help you chill out, stay prsent, and have fun. All of these benefits help create an ideal context for sex. Orange is also the color associated with the sacral chakra which is your center of creativity, pleasure, and sensuality. It blends great with florals.

Aphrodisiac Essential Oil Recipes

These recipes give you all the benefits of the typical romantic and aphrodisiac oils while having a brighter, more herbal scent. Prefer one of florals above? Sub it in for the Cypress or Orange.

Turn Me On Linen Spray

Add 24 drops of clary sage and 12 drops each of cypress and orange to a 4 oz glass spray bottle. Fill the rest with a hydrosol, vodka, or water. Shake vigorously before use to disperse the oils and spray in the air and on your sheets.

Turn Me On Thigh Roller

Add 2 drops of clary sage and one drop each of cypress and orange to a 10ml glass roller bottle. Fill the rest with a carrier oil – I like Apricot Oil because it’ll make your skin feel super soft and absorbs quickly. Roll up your inner thighs from your knees to your pantyline and then just under your belly button. Don’t put it on your tingly bits.

Turn Me On Massage Lotion

Mix 12 drops of clary sage and 6 drops each of cypress and orange to a 2 oz bottle with lotion. I personally like this hand & body cream since it’s lightweight and has just three ingredients: shea butter, olive oil, & sunflower oil. Use the lotion for a targeted or all-over body massage – just avoid the genitals!

Recipe Notes

  1. Each recipe features a 2% dilution rate – the standard for regular use by adults – calculated for the size bottle listed. If you’re using a different bottle size, adjust accordingly.
  2. If you are sensitive or immunocompromised like me, I recommend a 1% dilution rate – just cut the number of drops in half for the same size bottle.
  3. All of these oils are safe for use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
